How Does It Work?

The Base Room™ uses a method of construction tried and tested both in Europe and the United States. More recently this method was seen in practice on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) are exceedingly robust but also very versatile. The outer casing provides superb thermal insulation, whilst the inner concrete core provides overall strength and deadens any airborne sound. Most of the structure (90%) is laid below ground with steps leading down to the new room but the final element above ground allows the introduction of up to 360º daylight. The Base Room™ construction allows total flexibility for windows and doors and the timber roof is strong enough to support a garden terrace with decking or planting. As for the internal finish, well that's up to you!
